Words Aren’t Enough
What would it be like to weep at the foot of that cross,
Against a backdrop of jabs and taunts and goodbye forevers?
How would it feel to see the light of the world,
The very light in your eyes and mine,
Go out with a final, desperate cry?
What could you possibly say
When your very hope personified has been vanquished,
Beaten beyond recognition?
Mingled cries from broken bodies and spirits
Frame a spiteful afternoon few could foresee
And few could forget.
And yet,
What would it be like to see this man
On his feet in front of you again,
Magnetic as ever?
How would it feel to witness his return,
To see the light return to the world bit by bit,
Even brighter than before?
What could you say to love personified,
The very substance of your new life,
Except for maybe
Thank you and bless you and love you
And words aren’t enough.
